Sunrise by Frank C. Modica

would I love the sunrise

if I couldn’t see

the blue, the brightness,

the wisps of clouds

high in the stratosphere

would I love it

if I couldn’t hear

the cardinals chattering

away in the bushes,

as if my ears and eyes

were always out of reach

would I love the sunrise

if rain clouds chased

the beams behind the horizon

of the shadows

would I love it

if no one sang songs

to dispel the darkness

would I love it back
