pause to reflect,

pluck the words

from the universe,

string them together

like ducklings behind their mother,

and breathe life

into a quiet page,

much the same way

an artist’s colors

ignite the soul

of the canvas.


Amanda Valerie Judd has an AFA in Creative Writing. In 2020, she was the winner of the Patsy Lea Core Prize for Poetry. Her poem, “My Only Label” was recently nominated for “Best of the Net 2021.” Her work has been published or is forthcoming in the Journal of Heroine Love Songs, Prospectus, The Paper Lantern, and Talking Stick 30.
